General Foot Care Information
Achilles Tendonitis or Tenosynovitis
Achilles tendonitis is inflammation in and around the Achilles tendon. This is often associated with pain and swelling at the back of the heel and leg. Tendons are important as they join the bone to muscle. There are 102 tendons in our lower limbs and ankles.
Tendonitis is where the tendon becomes inflamed, usually from a strain, trauma or
excessive exercise.
Tenosynovitis is different to Tendonitis is it is where the tendon covering is irritated and
inflamed, this causes pain, swelling and sometimes a crackling sound when moving.
